Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School is situated about 5 km from Arusha town centre in north eastern Tanzania. The school has a population of over 1200 students from Forms 1 to 6. Following the completion of a sustained period of infrastructure development the school is well established and has gained a reputation for providing quality education. Facilities include 20 classrooms, library, science laboratories, computer and internet facilities, music, home economics and woodwork rooms, multi-purpose hall, administration area, dining room and kitchen and boarding hostels with accommodation for about 600 boarders from outlying districts. There are also farm fields and cow sheds associated with an agricultural program. 2008 saw the first group (135) Form 6 (Year 12) students sit for their National Exams. The school is inclusive of local tribal (approximately 30) and religious groups and has an affirmative action policy encouraging girls’ education. Sports including football, netball, basketball, volleyball and table tennis are popular with athletics having been introduced recently.
