There are now seven Christian Brothers who live and work in Kabankalan, Negros, and Hilongos, Southern Leyte in the Philippines. The Brothers joined the Kabankalan community in 2006. Kabankalan City is the centre of a small rural diocese established by the Columbans who worked there and established many schools.
Today, part of our work is to assist in the support of these schools. This involves assisting out-of-school children and young people to access an education – their hope for a better life.
After attending language school, the Brothers at Hilongos have begun teaching in St Teresa’s High School in June. This initial experience will help them form a relationship with the local community and, over time, identify how best to work with them.
