A record crowd and record fundraising effort for our friends at the Ruben Centre in Nairobi, were the result from our 500 Supporters’ Group AFL Luncheon at the MCG on Wednesday 16 May.
500 Supporters’ Chairman Pat O’Brien warmly welcomed a full house of 520 guests into the prestigious MCC Members dining room. Master of Ceremonies Shane Healy held the crowd together introducing the lovely Amy Graham. Amy presented a powerful speech about her first-hand experiences on the Gone Fishing immersion and her heartfelt story about visiting the children at the Ruben Centre.
Guest speakers, AFL Greats Tim and Jobe Watson charmed everyone with their father and son banter about their incredible AFL experiences. A welcome surprise guest appearance from the Madden brothers and it became a very humorous family feud challenge, the highly entertaining Simon and Justin Madden verses Tim and Jobe Watson, they had the room in stitches.
The 500 Supporters’ Group members are committed to making a difference to the lives of the many thousands of impoverished children and families whilst raising funds for The Ruben Centre with its 2,700 students, medical centre and various other much needed education programs and community health services.
Attendance, sponsorship support and a highly spirited live auction contributed to raise a record amount.
