A most successful event was held at the G on Tuesday 29 October, the Spring Racing Luncheon, the room was buzzing hearing from superstar and record-breaking Jockey guest speaker Damien Oliver. Shane Healy once again led an impressive panel of racing greats; Maree McEwan, VRC Chairman Neil Wilson, MVRC Chairman Adam Lennen.

All provided a great insight into the Carnival. An impressive number of people, all-willing to give their time and energy into continuing to build awareness for Ruben. Thanks to all the wonderful sponsors, especially the Platinum sponsors Bildgroup and Paywise for their incredible generosity.  Auctioneer extraordinaire Milo Rasinac and his team captivated everyone resulting in enthusiastic bidding.

In many ways these events are the core support for the 4,000 children and their families at Ruben. It was also fantastic to hear from Paddy and Lani Howe about their recent trip to Ruben. Their stories about an impressive young man Greg Barake, working in public relations at Ruben and Samson’s incredible journey is a powerful testament to the transformative power of education. Today, Samson is not only breaking the cycle of poverty for himself but is stepping forward to champion public health for his community and beyond.

These stories validate that each one of us that attends these luncheons is helping to make a vast difference to so many people in desperate need at Ruben.

1 in 3 children in Western Kenya cannot read a single word.

As we head towards the end of the financial year, your gift can help children learn, read and thrive.

In rural western Kenya, classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are untrained and under-supported, and children are leaving school unable to read, leaving them disadvantaged for life.

But, with your help, this can change.

With improved teacher training, better literacy support and safer classrooms, children can gain the foundational skills they need to succeed at school and beyond.

Your support this tax time will help train teachers, strengthen schools and help thousands of children learn to read with confidence.
