About

In Langas, many children and young people grow up facing poverty, trauma, and limited access to education and safe support systems. Without guidance, protection, and opportunity, they risk dropping out of school, poor mental health, and unsafe choices.

The Children and Youth Empowerment Project, led by Edmund Rice Eldoret Empowerment Program (EREEP), helps children and young people facing hardship to stay in school, build life skills, avoid risky behaviours and become positive community leaders.

The project provides age-appropriate support for:

  • > Children (5–12): learning support, life skills, emotional well-being
  • > Adolescents (13–17): mentoring, decision-making, and child protection
  • > Youth (18–25): leadership development and vocational skills

Beyond the classroom, the project trains community influencers – teachers, caregivers, boda-boda riders, and faith leaders – to act as role models and keep children safe.

Activities like community clean-ups, school greening initiatives, and wellness circles promote resilience, responsibility, and community pride.

With your support, children and young people in Langas can thrive, making informed choices, building resilience, and creating positive change in their communities.

1 in 3 children in Western Kenya cannot read a single word.

As we head towards the end of the financial year, your gift can help children learn, read and thrive.

In rural western Kenya, classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are untrained and under-supported, and children are leaving school unable to read, leaving them disadvantaged for life.

But, with your help, this can change.

With improved teacher training, better literacy support and safer classrooms, children can gain the foundational skills they need to succeed at school and beyond.

Your support this tax time will help train teachers, strengthen schools and help thousands of children learn to read with confidence.
