Clean water for a community

The situation

At St Joseph’s Kensekka Vocational Secondary School — and across eleven surrounding villages — the community depends on a single dam for all their water needs. It is untreated, unsafe, and unreliable putting families at constant risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and chronic diarrhoea. Girls often miss school because there are no safe or private sanitation facilities.

Our Response

We’re expanding the dam, drilling a borehole and installing a new electric pump and filtration system to provide clean, safe drinking water. We’re building sanitation facilities and delivering hygiene training for families ensuring health dignity and improved school attendance.

Impact

  • > More than 500 students30 teachers, and 51,766 community members will benefit directly from safe drinking water
  • > Improved hygiene practices for families across 11 villages
  • > Hope and dignity, especially for girls who are missing school simply because safe facilities don’t exist

About

At St Joseph’s Kensekka Vocational Secondary School — and across eleven surrounding villages — the community depends on a single dam for all their water needs. It is untreated, unsafe, and unreliable putting families at constant risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and chronic diarrhoea. Girls often miss school because there are no safe or private sanitation facilities.

The three-year Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project at St Joseph’s Kensekka Vocational Secondary School will expand the dam, provide safe drinking water and install sanitation facilities for the school and surrounding community.

The project will deliver:

  • > Clean, filtered drinking water through a new electric pump and filtration system
  • > Safe sanitation facilities, including biodigester toilets, bathrooms, and hand-washing stations
  • > Improved hygiene practices for families across 11 villages
  • > Hope and dignity, especially for girls who are missing school simply because safe facilities don’t exist

By giving clean water, you’re not just solving today’s problems — you’re transforming a community for generations. Safe water allows students to stay healthy, attend school, and build brighter futures.
