Video update: Rose Share a Progress Update

Kakamega County, Kenya

School Development Programme | Pursue

This year, we started supporting an exciting project in Kakamega County in Western Kenya. The Schools Development Programme by Pursue is making great strides. In its first year, the project will strengthen 50 community schools supporting over 6,000 teachers, students and parents.

Rose recently joined the Pursue team and works as the Project Lead for the Schools Development Programme. Here, she provides an update on the project and its impact.

Looking ahead

In Kakamega County, many community schools operate with few resources and little access to trained teachers or government support. Children are eager to learn, but without foundational literacy skills, their future opportunities narrow dramatically.

One in three young children can’t read a single word. Without urgent support, many students will continue falling behind.

Through teacher training, literacy support, child safeguarding, positive discipline and parent engagement, we can create safer learning environments where children thrive.

1 in 3 children in Western Kenya cannot read a single word.

As we head towards the end of the financial year, your gift can help children learn, read and thrive.

In rural western Kenya, classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are untrained and under-supported, and children are leaving school unable to read, leaving them disadvantaged for life.

But, with your help, this can change.

With improved teacher training, better literacy support and safer classrooms, children can gain the foundational skills they need to succeed at school and beyond.

Your support this tax time will help train teachers, strengthen schools and help thousands of children learn to read with confidence.
