Liz Mwangi: visit to Australia

We were recently blessed to have Liz Mwangi visit us from Kenya.

Liz has a long history for working both at the Ruben Centre and also as a staff member of Edmund Rice Foundation.  This was her first time in Australia since taking over as Director of the Ruben Centre from Brother Frank O’Shea in 2025.

Those of you who have come into contact with Liz will know that she is a passionate believer in the role of education to lift communities out of poverty and is a fierce believer in the vital role of the Ruben Centre as being an Oasis of Hope within the Mukuru community.

During her 3-week visit, Liz was able to meet with a variety of school and student groups, donors and supporters in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.  Highlights included meeting with students from St Patrick’s College Strathfield and Waverley College, participating in St Bernard’s College Essendon’s Feast Day and Solidarity Walk and guest speaking at the EREA Business Leaders Conference and the 500 Supporters Lunch at the MCG.

If Liz’s visit has inspired you, she’d love to host you one day in Mukuru and show you around the Ruben Centre.  Into The Heart immersions trips are being planned for 2027, so if you are interested or would like more information, please reach out to [email protected]

I am so happy and thankful for ERFA for teaching us how to plan, work and plant vanilla in the correct way.

1 in 3 children in Western Kenya cannot read a single word.

As we head towards the end of the financial year, your gift can help children learn, read and thrive.

In rural western Kenya, classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are untrained and under-supported, and children are leaving school unable to read, leaving them disadvantaged for life.

But, with your help, this can change.

With improved teacher training, better literacy support and safer classrooms, children can gain the foundational skills they need to succeed at school and beyond.

Your support this tax time will help train teachers, strengthen schools and help thousands of children learn to read with confidence.
