About

In Mukuru, many children struggle to learn because of poverty, limited resources, absenteeism, and behavioural challenges. Without quality teaching, safe learning environments, and family support, they risk falling behind.

The Ruben Centre Education Project, delivered at the AEF Ruben Primary School, is changing this by providing quality, holistic education in one of Nairobi’s most marginalised communities.

The project focuses on:

  • > Effective implementation of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)
  • > Teacher training and professional development to improve classroom practice
  • > Improved learning resources and school infrastructure
  • > Active parental engagement to support attendance, discipline, and learning at home
  • > Beyond academics: promoting positive behaviour, values, and life skills by addressing absenteeism, substance abuse, and poor discipline
  • > Talent development through arts, clubs, and sports builds confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging

This approach ensures children are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

Your support gives children in Mukuru the chance to learn, grow and thrive.

1 in 3 children in Western Kenya cannot read a single word.

As we head towards the end of the financial year, your gift can help children learn, read and thrive.

In rural western Kenya, classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are untrained and under-supported, and children are leaving school unable to read, leaving them disadvantaged for life.

But, with your help, this can change.

With improved teacher training, better literacy support and safer classrooms, children can gain the foundational skills they need to succeed at school and beyond.

Your support this tax time will help train teachers, strengthen schools and help thousands of children learn to read with confidence.
