The 500 Supporters’ Group AFL Luncheon

The 500 Supporters’ Group AFL Luncheon

Congratulations to Patrick O’Brien (Chair, The 500 Supporters’ Group), members of the 500 Supporters’ Group committee and to the Group’s many friends and supporters on a most successful AFL Lunch on Tuesday, 7 May in the Olympic Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. A record attendance of 480 contributed to a very successful function in support of the Ruben Centre, which provides health, education and development projects for the people of the Mukuru slum in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Foundation is indebted to Master of Ceremonies, Leon Weigard OAM, who has generously hosted these functions for many years. The Foundation is grateful to Guest of Honour, Br Frank O’Shea, Director, Ruben Centre and Special Guest, The Honourable Jeffrey Kennett AC, former Premier of the State of Victoria and immediate Past President of the Hawthorn Football Club. The Foundation is also grateful for the presence and support of Nick Maxwell and Luke Ball from the Collingwood Football Club and to comedian, writer and producer Mick Molly for his assistance with the auction.

We look forward to the 500 Supporters’ Group pre Melbourne Cup Luncheon on October 29.

Kylie Lang Articles

Kylie Lang Articles

Recently, we posted here an article entitled, My Eyes Opened in Africa, by Kylie Lang, a recently returned participant in the Gone Fishing East Africa Immersion Program. We indicated that a longer article was in preparation. Kylie managed to get that published in every capital city over the Easter weekend (though we are not sure about Perth). From all reports the feedback, emails, Facebook, Twitter etc… has been overwhelmingly positive. Kylie is the editor of the Brisbane Courier Mail QWeekend supplement and a senior editor with the Courier Mail.

The Edmund Rice Network owes Kylie Lang a huge debt of gratitude. The Easter weekend is known in the newspaper industry as the most important weekend in their calendar year due to the number of people who purchase newspapers over the extended long weekend. To have these positive stories published about the Brothers and their development projects over the weekend has provided a huge ‘shot in the arm’ in broadcasting the extraordinary work taking place within the network. If you would like to send Kylie a message her email is: kylie.lang@news.com.au
